What is the required Rudraksha Puja before wearing Ekmukhi? What is the difference between energized Rudraksha and normal Rudraksha? Let us discuss these topics today.

Normal procedure of Rudraksha Dharana includes, prior worship of it in the name of presiding deity. This is sometimes called as energization of Rudraksha. We can compare it with the 'Naming of a baby'. By naming we are not giving any special energy, but, we are approaching easily. Now, you can decide your self, whether to give importance to the cult and Mantras given below, or not.

EK MUKHI RUDRAKSHA POOJA

1. Select Shivratri or any other holy day.

2. Weak-up early in the morning. We are going to start Puja before Sun-rise. It takes around 30 min.

3. Collect 108 Red colored flowers (as most of us are having worldly desires) and keep them with you.

4. Make a Prthiva Shiva lingham (with mud from a pond or any good place).

5. Say prayer to your Guru, Lord Ganesh, Ishta daivam (Form of God to whom you are devoted) and Lord Shiva.

5. Choose any one Mantra as per your need.

Om Namah Shivaya : For general good

Om Hreem Namh : For energy / vitality

Om Hreem Kleem Sreem Namah : For wealth / luck

Om Aim Ham Aum Aim Om : For knowledge

Eka vaktrasshivassakshaat Brahmahatyaam vyapohati : For relieving sins

6. Garland the Rudraksha to Lord Shiva after Abhishekam.

7. Worship Shiva by offering the Red flowers and chanting selected Mantra. Don't do all Mantras. That is not correct procedure. If you can spend some more time, chant the same Mantra many times.

8. It is better to repeat this procedure on every Shivratri.

9. Much better to chant Mantra daily. If you have Guru Mantra do that daily. That's enough.

10. This procedure is very simple and brief. Not for elite persons capable of doing Rudrabhishekam or Rudra homam. Of-course they know and will have their own style, which sometimes take even 40 days of time!

Few of us may feel problem in doing Parthiva linga Puja. They can choose to offer flowers and garland their Rudraksha to Lord Shiva in a local temple. All of us know, Devotion is important.

important point : Use a Rudraksha for single purpose, i.e, "worship it", "wear it" or "include it in Rudraksha mala for chanting". Don't do all things with same Rudraksha.

Belief in Lord Shiva, Good character, Practicing abstinence from Non vegetarian diet, smoking and sexual activity are the basic rules of Rudraksh. They will also apply to Ek mukhi. But, there are some additional suggestions in Tantras to get maximum benefits from it. They will also guide us how not to misuse this Powerful Rudraksha. I will list them out in the order of importance.

1. It is better to worship than to wear:

Ya, I know, you will be disappointed by hearing it. But, it's a very important suggestion. They suggest that wearing of Ek mukhi Rudraksha and Das mukhi Rudraksha (10 faced) should be limited to the time of worship. Both have different reasons. The high spirituality which should be maintained while wearing an Ek mukhi is rarely possible for a normal person in day to day life. For Das mukhi Rudraksha the reason lies in it's empowering deity. It belongs to Yoganidra Mahakali. It attracts Tamasika shaktis (Black powers) and may impose Negative character to the wearers if they don't have sufficient willpower.

Understand, Ek mukhi and Das mukhi are not completely banned from wearing. Tantras encourage us to wear them while chanting or while doing meditation, so that we can get good results without getting into problems. People who can't spend their time in chanting can utilize these Rudrakshas by keeping them at Puja mandir or in the Chest / Drawer.

2. It is better to do Annadana:

Donating food to the people in need. Nothing is equal to Anna dana. It gives us enormous Punya. It protects from all sins. It is greatly useful to get satisfaction, peace and high end benefits from any Rudraksha. All the mistakes done while using Ek mukhi Rudraksha will be rectified by doing Annadana.

3. It is better to practice chanting:

O.k, There are lot of Mantras. But, Panchakshari (NamasShivaya) is incomparable. If one has Guru mantra (Came from Guru by Upadesha) it is even better. That can be any Mantra, need not be of Lord Shiva. There are specific Mantras for all Rudrakshas. I will write separate posts for them. Please wait. You will not be dissatisfied.

4. It is better to practice Bhasma dharana:

Lord Shiva loves Bhasma dharana, wearing Vibhuti (Sacred ashes) on forehead. What is the solution for the devotees of other deities? In Hinduism, all sects of religion have Nama dharana, specific to their own style. They are encouraged to follow their style.

Restrictions for wearing Eka mukhi Rudraksha:

Children and Diseased persons are not allowed to wear Ek mukhi. They can't bear it's energy.

Very important note: Wearing Ek mukhi Rudraksha at the time of death is a luck. For that matter any Rudraksha. So, we must always encourage old people to wear them. Don't get doubts about the diseases in that age.

These festivals and Pujas are only meant for people belonging to Hinduism. Others can select a sacred day of their custom. Anybody can wear Rudrakshas with a pure heart.

It is also told that the best time to wear any Rudraksha is between 6.00 A.M to 7.30 A.M, with an exception to Ashtamukhi. 4.30 P.M to 6.00 P.M is good for Ashtamukhi.

With a pure heart we can wear Rudraksha on any moment. Nothing bad happens. But, Astrology tells us some important timings to attain very best results from a Rudraksha.

1. No doubt. Shivratri is the best day. If it is not possible to start wearing Rudraksha on Shivratri, it is better to chose an eclipse day (Solar eclipse or Lunar eclipse).

2.Tithi: Paurnami and Krishna Chaturdasi (Masa Shivaratri) are the best. Vidiya, Panchami, Dasami, Trayodasi are also good.

3. Vara: Sunday, Monday.

4. Nakshatra: Ashwini, Mrigasira, Pushyami, Swathi, Sravana are good. It is better to see Chandra bala and Tara bala while selecting a Nakshatra.

5. Lagna: Mesha, Karkataka, Tula, Vrischika, Makara, Kumbha.

6. Paksha: Shukla paksha is good for normal people. Krishna paksha is good for saints.

7. Masa: Sravana, Bhadrapada, Ashwiyuja, Karthika, Margasira, Magha.

8. Ayana: Uttarayana.

Some people even choose a specific Muhurtha for a specific desire. Muhurthas will again change from person to person. So, it is better to ask an Astrologer for such things. 

Empowering Rudraksha with Mantra japa is also good. You can do it both before and after wearing. Worship Rudraksha and consider it as Lord Shiva himself. Real devotion is important to obtain good results from any Rudraksh.

Rudraksha are classified into four types depending on color, three types depending on size and two types depending on quality.

Classification of Rudrakshas depending on origin:

I'm not going to tell about the geographical locations of Rudraksha trees. This classification is based on the story of Tripurasuras. Devi bhagavata Maha purana describes that a total 38 varieties of Rudraksha originated from the three eyes of Lord Shiva while he is meditating on Aghora Pashupatastra to kill the demons.

From the Right eye, with the power of Sun, 12 types of Rudraksha took birth in the color of red (Kapila varna). From the Left eye, with the power of Moon, 16 types in white color (Shweta varna) and from the Third eye, with the power of Fire, 10 types in black color (Krishna varna).

Classification of Rudrakshas depending on color:

Rudraksha are classified into white, yellow, red and black varieties based on color. White Rudraksha are called as Brahma variety. They are useful in gaining good character. Red colored Rudraksha are called as Kshatra variety. They are useful to rule the world. Yellow Rudraksha are Vaishya variety. They give wealth and prosperity. Black colored Rudraksha are Shudra variety. They give good health and increase longevity.

(Puranas allot these four types to four "Varnas" of Hindu community. We need not get confused with those sayings. Lord Srikrishna clearly told in "Bhagavadgita" that these four Varnas are created based on the characters and lifestyles, not by birth.)

It is also important to note that, in the nature, Rudrakshas are not available in pure colors as told by Puranas. Many Rudrakshas will be in Whitish yellow, Brick red, and Coffee colors.

Classification of Rudrakshas depending on size:

Amla fruit size (Dhatri phala), Zizyphus fruit size (Badari phala) and Chick pea size (Chana) are the three sizes told by Puranas. But, we are not uncommon with the mixed sizes.

Classification of Rudrakshas depending on quality:

The most important rule is Rudraksha must have rough thorny surface. A Rudraksha with a smooth surface is not energetic.

What are different types of Rudraksha? How to identify them? These are the basic questions for a beginner. He gets confused with the innumerable varieties of Rudraksha. Today I'm going to explain this topic in detail.

What is the Face of a Rudraksh?

Rudraksha is the nut of Rudraksha fruit. It generally contains 5 compartments with a single seed in each compartment. The joining wall between two compartments is represented by a grove / line on the surface of the nut. It is called as Face (Mukhi), key to identify different Rudraksha beads. Rudrakshas are normally categorized and named based on these Mukhi. For example, Panch mukhi Rudraksha is the one with five lines on it.

How many types of Rudraksh are present?

Many. But, all of them are not available equally. I'll list the varieties in the order of availability.

1. Panchmukhi Rudraksh : Five face Rudraksha
   
2. Charmukhi Rudraksh : Four face Rudraksha
   
3. Chemukhi Rudraksh : Six face Rudraksha
   
4. Teenmukhi Rudraksh : Three face Rudraksha

Remaining Rudraksha described bellow are present in the nature but are very very rare.

7. Twenty one mukhi

There were descriptions of Twenty four mukhi(!) and Twenty seven mukhi(?) Rudrakshas in some village tales. But, Puranas and Tantras don't even mention them.

Sometimes, due to anomalies in the development, two or three Rudrakshas join together to form Rare Rudrakshas like Gauri Shankar or Trijuti.

Rules for wearing Rudraksha

We must to know the basic Rudraksha rules before wearing a Rudraksha. No doubt, It is not allowed to wear Rudrakshas without accepting the Lord. What about other rules? What do the Puranas and Tantras tell about caste, creed and sex? Let us concentrate on these topics.

1. Don't wear Rudrakshas without believing Lord Shiva:

Rudrakshas are not Gems. Rudrakshas are not beads. They are tears of Lord Shiva. Wearing Rudrakshas without accepting Shiva (Rudra) results in dangerous consequences. The reason is simple. People who don't believe in Shiva tend to disobey the remaining guidelines too.

What about the people from other religions?

 

They are allowed, if they accept Lord Shiva. (Observe, only acceptance needed. Changing their custom is nowhere mentioned.) Rudrakshas greatly help in attaining best results with chanting or meditation. They are useful in raising Kundalini and are needed by all religious people. There may be their own methods to boost their worship. But, Rudraksha is incomparable.

Other Rudraksha rules:

2. Character is must. Ahimsa (Don't harm anyone), Satyam (Don't say lies) Asteyam (Don't steal anything) Brahmacharyam (Don't go passionate) Aparigraham (Don't beg anybody). All these five principles are important but the priority goes to the first ones.

3. Non-vegetarian diet, eggs, and Alcohol are strictly prohibited. Luxurious diet (Rajasikahara) and Unhealthy diet (Tamasikahara) are also not allowed.

4. Smoking and other Tobacco related habits are banned.

5. Participating in sexual activity either completely or partially is not at all permitted.

6. Saucham (Cleanliness): Rudraksha should be kept aside while going to toilet. Women should not wear Rudraksha in menstrual period (4 days). Avoid Rudrakshas in the days of Asaucha (if a birth or death occurred in that home, for birth: 3 days, for death: 10 days).

Santosham (Happiness): Don't wear Rudrakshas in the time of grief.

7. Don't touch people who are in above 6 disallowed conditions. No restrictions are mentioned regarding caste, creed or nationality.

Feeling very difficult? O.k, I can suggest a solution. Rudraksha rules 1 and 2 are mandatory. We can avoid wearing Rudrakshas in the remaining conditions.

There are traditions looking contradictory to these rules. I accept. but, they are too difficult to follow in remaining aspects and not meant for normal people.

Finally, Is it allowed to wear Rudraksha while taking bath? Yes. It is even encouraged. But, don't forget to protect costly Rudrakshas from soap and water.

Fake Ek mukhi Rudraksha

Sometimes we come across fake ones for the Rare Rudrakshas like Ek mukhi. As the Sacred books seriously warned about their ill-effects, we should neither wear them on body nor keep them at Puja mandir. O.k, Let us first discuss about the most common doubt on Ek mukhi Rudraksha.

Kaju dana, is it real Eka mukhi?

Yes, Kajudana (Cashew nut shaped Ek mukhi Rudraksha) is a real Ek mukhi. Anatomy of a normal Ek mukhi Rudraksh turns it into crescentic. It looses it's roundness because of lack of many compartments. So, no fear to purchase a Kaju dana.

Shivling on Eka mukhi:

Like this? No. It's fake. Some people tell that the groves on the surface of a Round One face Rudraksh turn into the shapes of Shivling, Serpent etc. But those signs are not mandatory, they are only optional.

How many types of Fake Eka mukhi are present?

We cannot classify them. As the technology is growing and the demand is rising, many new methods are being invented to create the fake ones. An important thing to note: The Physicochemical analysis reports have given no reliable clue to know the Faces (lines /Mukhi) of a Rudraksha. So, it is better to do some essential tests before purchasing a Rudraksh.

Dangers from Fake Eka mukhi Rudraksha:

Worshiping a fake Ek mukhi Rudraksha gives poverty (Daridrya karakam). Worshiping a spoiled Rudraksha attracts evil forces, causing psychological disturbances. They may even lead to suicides or homicides.

Where can we find Original Rudrakshas?

From well-known persons, whom you can believe in. 

Not satisfied? O.k, I can suggest two other alternatives. Big merchants, who were running their business from many years. Yes, time tested them. So, we can relay. 

The second important point is place of purchase. We can easily find Good quality Rudrakshas at Varanasi or Kathmandu. The reasons are different. Varanasi is a place for Good merchants, Rudraksha trees grow enormously at Kathmandu. So as, Haridwar and Janakpur. South-East Asia (Thailand, Java, Sumatra, Borneo, Bali etc) is also a land of Rudrakshas.

Physical and Chemical Properties of Rudraksha are a topic of interest for many people. What do they tell us? Can we prove Rudraksha Power with these properties? Do they have any importance in Rudraksha therapy? Let us first concentrate on the Benefits. I will give the stuff below.

Uses of Analyzing Rudraksha:

1. If we know the Properties of a Real Rudraksh, we can easily eliminate Fake ones. We can also find Best Rudrakshas. This is the first use.

Tripurasuras are three Demons who have Innumerable Powers. They live in three Purams which are built in the sky and revolve in space (Can be compared to very big Flying saucers). I think It is just a Legend. Nobody is reporting his Luck of getting Round Ek mukhi Rudraksha. Even if the person (Unlucky guy) sells it that will become a News. The story might have occurred previously. Many great Tantrics worshiped Pashupatinath and his Shakti Guhya Kali. 

One mukhi Rudraksha tree in Srisailam forest:

A One mukhi Rudraksha tree is present in the deep forest of Srisailam (Kurnool district, Andhra pradesh, India). It is worshiped by a Tribal group living there. It will give two One mukhi Rudrakshas. Out of them one will be buried under the same tree and the second one will be given to a person whom they feel Best among Devotees, on the day of Shivratri.

What is Ekmukhi Rudraksha?

Ek mukhi (Eka mukhi / One Mukhi Rudraksha) is a Wonder of Nature. Normally Rudraksha beads will have 5 lines (Mukhi) on them. They resemble 5 compartments of Rudraksha nut. Each compartment contains a seed in it. But, Ek mukhi will have only one seed!

What is the shape of Ekmukhi?

Normal Ek mukhi is Half-moon shaped or Cashew-nut (Kaju dana) shaped. Not agreeing with me? Ha, Ha! What I told is NORMAL. Round Ek mukhi are present. But, they are very very rare. The reason is Rudraksha nut can't retain it's roundness with one compartment. Not only Ek mukhi, but many Two mukhi and Three mukhi Rudrakshas are not completely Round. They will turn some what oval vertically. Also note: As the lines (Mukhi) of Rudraksha increase, the bead gradually flattens.

Roundness increases the Power. But, Ek mukhi is always Ek mukhi.

Why One Face Rudraksha is so Powerful?

Nobody knows! But we can prove the superiority of One Face Rudraksha with a Rudraksha test. Milk will not spoil for 5 days if Ek mukhi is placed in it. The reason may be in the Astral body of this Rudraksha.

Is Eka mukhi allowed to wear on body?

This is an important question. Yes. Allowed! But, remember Ek mukhi Rudraksha is directly Lord Shiva himself (Sakshat Shiva swarupa). We have to behave as if we are in the Paradise of Shiva (Kailasa). No exceptions.

Like all Rudraksha Ek mukhi is also not allowed to wear while taking Alcohol, While participating in sex, and in Menstrual period. Keep it beside while taking bath to protect from water.

The Best Rudraksha is always Ek mukhi. It's O.k. What about the quality differences? How to choose a Best Rudraksha from the same category? It is a must know info before purchasing a Rudraksha. Luckily, Puranas clearly told the characters of Best Rudraksha.

Guidelines to find out Best Rudraksha:

Big Rudraksha are superior to small Rudraksha.

Big Rudraksha: 

It will be in the size of an Amla fruit (Dhatri phala) with a radius above 2 c.m. It gives both Materialistic and Spiritual wealth (Bhoga Moksha prada). It protects from Dangers.

Medium sized Rudraksha: 

It will be in the size of Zizyphus fruit (Badari phala) with a radius between 1 to 2 c.m. It gives medium results.

Small Rudraksha: 

It will be in the size of Chick pea (Chana) with a radius below 1 c.m. It gives Materialistic wealth.

 

Tantras suggest Big Rudraksh for wearing on the body and Small Rudraksh for making a Japa mala to chant Mantras.

There are some Rudrakshas with a radius of 4 c.m! They are very very rare. And they are not meant for normal people. Great Spiritual leaders use them for the benefits of the world. Never mistake a Fake Rudraksha with them. 

Strong Rudraksha are superior to Weak Rudraksha. Brittle Rudraksha are from Unripe fruits. They will lose groves in few years. They are not good. 

Even Rudraksha are superior to Uneven Rudraksha. A beautiful Rudraksha is always supported. It should be Round. It should have clear groves and lines. Don't use Malformed Rudraksha. It results in Poverty. Few groves represent low Energy.

Beads from Rudraksha fruits which dry up on the tree itself are Best. Rudraksha fruits will grasp Solar power and Cosmic energy as they ripen. They gain Magnetic field as they dry up. Rudraksha beads from Unripe fruits and Ripen fruits which fell on the ground are of lower quality.

A Rudraksha bead which has a Natural central hole is of Supreme quality. But, they are only 0.01%. We have to make hole for the remaining.

Why Fake Rudrakshas are created?

Nobody will create Fake Panch mukhi Rudraksha. Because, they are available ample in the Nature. But, Ek mukhi Rudraksh, Gauri shankar Rudraksha, Trijuti Rudraksha, and some Rare Rudrakshas are limited. They are not available up to the demand. This lead to creation of Fake Rudrakshas.

 

What is a Genuine Rudraksha?

It must be a Rudraksha. Not Bhadraksha or some other. Compartments inside Rudraksha must match the number of lines (Mukhi) on it. No alteration should be done to prove it as a different Rudraksha. No art-work should be done.

Genuine Ek mukhi:

Availability of Ek mukhi Rudraksha is very limited. Best Ek mukhi is Round shaped with a single line on it. It is not at all available commercially. But, business people sell half-moon shaped Ek mukhi. This is also Ek mukhi Rudraksha.

How Fake Ekmukhi Rudraksha is created?

By removing a line on Two mukhi Rudraksha with fine instruments.

By using glue to cover the lines of Two mukhi or Three mukhi.

By printing Shivling, Serpent, and Aum on Bhadraksha.

By using Zizyphus (Badari) seeds.

By using  and Dalbergia (Simshupa) and Chestnut wood.

By using Lac or some Synthetic material to create it artificially!

How to identify Fake Ekmukhi?

Use the tests explained in Original Rudraksh page to find out whether it is a Rudraksha or not. Closely observe for alterations. Boil the Rudraksha in water. It removes the glue if applied. Soaking in liquid Nitrous oxide is useful to remove more sophisticated glues. The best way is to take an x-ray photograph and count the compartments.

Genuine Rudraksha - Fake Rudraksha:

Gauri shankar Rudraksha :

Two Rudrakshas are joined artificially to create it. Normally Gauri shankar is made up of two Panch mukhi Rudrakshas. If you see a different variety, be careful.

Trijuti Rudraksha:

We can't find many Trijuti Rudrakshas in the Nature. These are also generally formed out of Panch mukhis. Don't believe Trijuti made up of three Ek mukhis!

There are 14 mukhi Rudrakshas created from 12 mukhis. X-ray test is the only solution to be 100% sure. Rare Rudrakshas above 14 faces are also present. But, purchase only from Genuine persons.

Original Rudraksha : How to test Rudraksha

Rudraksha borne out of tears of Lord Shiva. It is divine. It is holy. Original Rudraksha gives us enormous fortune by the grace of Shiva. But how to find it?

Rudraksha test:

Many people think that we can find Real Rudraksha by a single test. That is only half-true. Sadhus identify Original Rudraksha by a collection of tests. The tests are simple. Now I'm going to illustrate them.

Appearance of Rudraksha:

Rudraksha beads are nuts of Rudraksha trees. They will be in Reddish-brown / Pale-Yellow color with many groves on their surface. There are three sizes of Rudrakshas. Amla fruit size (Dhatri phala pramana), Zizyphus fruit size (Badari phala pramana) and Chick pea size (Chana matra).

O.k. Let us concentrate on important tests to identify Real Rudraksha.

Magnetic field test:

Original Rudraksha will have a magnetic field around it. This character can be used to find out a Real one. Place Rudraksha between two copper coins. Rudraksha rotates itself.

Precautions:

Place Rudraksha on the coin vertically with it's poles facing up and down. Bring the second copper coin slowly, so that you can see the movement.

Results:

Rudraksha must rotate in Clockwise direction (Pradakshina). There will be some Rudrakshas which rotate Anti-clockwise (Apradakshina). But never take them. They are also Rudrakshas but will have Negative energy.

Density test:

Real Rudraksha will sink in water or milk. Rudraksha beads from unripe fruits will also float on water. But they are useless.

Thermometer test:

It is a simple test which explains an important property of Rudraksha. Place Rudraksha in a glass with small amount of water (just enough to cover Rudraksha). Record temperature by using a Thermometer. Record the temperature after 30 minutes. You can observe 1 or 2 degrees centigrade rise of temperature.

Milk test:

It is a time consuming test. But, it shows the superiority of Ek mukhi Rudraksha over all remaining Rudrakshas. Place Rudraksha in a glass of fresh milk. See after 2 days. The milk will not spoil. Some quality Rudrakshas can protect milk for even 3 days. Ek mukhi Rudraksha will work for 5 to 7 days. Really!

Tantrics and Yogis can identify the Power of Rudrakshas by keeping Rudraksha in their fist and observing pulse (Nadi spandana) . That is impossible for normal persons. But, we can use above tests to find out Original Rudraksha.
